Perfect picks for your Valentine's weekend

Make the most of this Valentine’s Day and celebrate all weekend long! Whether you're taking advantage of a staycation in or around Phoenix or you're jet-setting for the weekend, we're telling you just what to pack to stand out.

What to pack:

1 or 2 LBD's (depending on the length of your vacation)

1 jacket

1 pair of jeans

1 camisole

1 blouse

1 tunic/dress with a pop of color

2 earrings

1 necklace

1 pair of sunnies

1 purse

1 pair of nude pumps

1 pair of booties

The great thing about these items is the ability to mix and match.

The blush jacket can be worn with any of these pieces for some added color or to cover up in the cold. It adds a bit of edge to any of these looks and takes a blouse and jeans combo to the next level.

The purse we've packed can be worn as a clutch or as a cross-body. It holds just enough for a day around the town and is compact enough to carry around your wrist.

We've added some statement earrings, and a necklace that can be worn two different ways or as a bracelet … easy pieces to pack that bring an outfit together.

All of what's in our suitcase can be worn in any combination -- for your romantic Valentine’s dinner, or a colorful, flirty look when heading out to brunch. They'll make your Valentine’s weekend stress free and so special!

Want more from your closet? Layers can help! And so can we.

With these chilly temps sticking around, adding layers is a great way to stay warm and bring some fun texture to an everyday outfit.

You may have a favorite go-to jacket or vest to throw on and go, and we love the ease and style of that look. But some days it's nice to change it up, and what better way to stretch the depth of your closet than a great button-down shirt or pullover! Start layering those sweaters, dresses and flannels you bought to wear on their own with these inspired looks to create new outfit options.

And remember that layering jewelry and mixing metals to make a bold statement with your accessories are perfect ways to complete your look. Here we paired pieces we hadn't always thought to put together in the past.

These combinations are sure to refresh your closet in more ways than one. You can buy these looks in store or use them as a starting point to take advantage of some pieces you already have in your closet.

Julie's Favorites: From On-the-Go Looks to Date Night Outfits

By Kayla Bustos

We LOVE layers, mixing and matching AND especially saving money! So we decided to put together some store favorites to help you get lots of bang for your buck, while keeping you very fashionable through the holidays.

#1 On the Go: Featuring Dear John© Denim black jeggings, En Crème oversized tunic, cream scarf, Penny Loves Kenny medium-size camel handbag

This super comfortable outfit is not only adorable but the best on-the-go look. Pair it with some sneakers for every day or some tan booties to make it perfectly complete. Each of these pieces will be worn again and again. We guarantee it!

#2 Comfy to Business Casual: Featuring BB Dakota chevron blazer/cardigan, Dylan tank, I love Tyler Madison vegan braided legging

Gearing up for colder weather means making choices that get us out of the house warm and cute!  This chevron print has the structure of a blazer and the warmth and comfort of a sweater, pairing perfectly with the braided leggings along with some flat or heeled boots!

#3 Workday to a Night Out: Featuring Daniel Rainn blouse, I love Tyler Madison pencil skirt, Jack by BB Dakota faux fur vest

This black pencil skirt can be worn again and again as a complement to your favorite blouses, but pairing it with this stitched polka dot blouse is a stunning contrast to the faux fur vest! This combination makes for the perfect outfit as you leave the office for dinner out.

#4 Holiday Parties: Featuring Jack velvet wine dress, Jack faux suede grey jacket

If you're picking a dress to stand out, this is the one! A great color and style that are perfect with tights and heels to get you through any holiday party. If you're looking to add another level of texture, this grey faux suede jacket is the best complement when heading out for the night.

And always remember to accessorize and throw the old rules out the window: Mix and match your metals; more than one necklace is OK -- layers are lovely; and go for a simple or bold statement, or both!

Let us help style you this fall and holiday season, and pick special gifts for friends and family! Email Julie for a personal shopping appointment: julie@theloreleiboutique.com

Layer it! So many ways to transition your summer look into fall

By Kayla Bustos

Fall is coming, but that doesn't mean your summer staples are out of commission.

We've paired some of our favorite summer styles with easy fall layers in this "how to" on keeping your look relevant as the temps cool down. It's always great to add some structured pieces, and of course, some comfortable flowy ones to enhance your summer wardrobe for the fall and winter months.

Our structured faux leather jacket turns this sweet summer dress into the perfect everyday style.

Mixing in some texture and color with this velvet tank makes this otherwise black ensemble stand out.

This jean dress was a hit this summer and will continue to be when you pair it with an oversized sweater and cinch the waste with a nice belt.

Another transformation is with this blue maxi -- when adorned with a belt, it adds great structure that pairs perfectly with this flowy blazer.

A beautiful group of colors pops with a black blazer to make an exciting fall look.

Let us help you transition your summer style into fall today!

Do you carry your life in your purse?

By Kayla Bustos

We tested out these popular styles to see what we could fit into each!

I decided to dump out (and then organize) the things that were in my purse to determine what size bag really suits me best and to test some of our faves in store for you! Found in my bag: Clinique mascara, MAC lipstick, Baby Lips®, Tide to Go, business card, Melie Bianco wallet, Charlene K 'initial' ring, Michael Kors watch, Gold Bond lotion and sunnies.

My Medium Size Bag

While it’s sometimes hard to find my keys, phone, etc., and unnecessary items end up in the bottom of the bag, I can carry my iPad with room, plus any excess makeup, snacks for the day (a must), water bottle, phone and chargers (too many must haves).

Benefits of Bags Shown

Tote: Can carry a laptop, wallet/clutch, chargers, snacks, extra clothes and anything you may need for a getaway with ease! Contains at least one smaller pocket for the extra special keys or phone that are a must.

Double Handle: Fastens shut at the top and can carry an iPad, chargers, wallet/clutch, snacks, everyday essentials (as included in my purse).

Clutch: Only the bare minimum! Lip gloss, phone, cash and cards are about all that will make it in there. Perfect for a night on the town.

Satchel: Lies perfectly across your body without hindering your outfit. Ideal for those forgetful people (me) who set things down and forget about them, this won't leave your side. Can carry a phone, keys, small wallet, lip gloss and phone charger.

Bucket: Easily the purse of the summer. Can carry a phone, small wallet, sunscreen, shades, bikini (yay summer!) and has a drawstring to pull it shut. And if it's filling up quickly, don't forget the outside pockets for extra space.

Frame: This structured bag offers a bit more room and a much more sophisticated look as a cross-body. Can carry a phone, wallet, charger, makeup and maybe a snack or two.

With all that in mind...do you need to upsize or downsize your bag? Or, even better, how about selecting a couple styles to manage what any day may bring!

An Outfit to Win Over Date Night

By Kayla Bustos

As the summer sun is beating down on us and we can hardly stand to make it outside unless it's required, we're looking for something to save us from this heat-infused slump.

An awesome outfit always seems to do the trick, because who doesn't want to show off their newest wardrobe addition? Putting together an outfit to help beat the heat can make or break a night out. Whether you are venturing to The Duce for a night of swing dancing lessons, or you're touring The Phoenix Art Museum, your outfit should make you happy, comfortable and beautiful.

Sometimes pairing the perfect top and shorts just takes too much effort, so why not throw on the perfect little dress to win date night? Grab a cross-body bucket bag and some statement accessories, and your little dress turns into the perfect outfit.

Don't forget to pair your dress with strappy sandals, or if you're going to dress it up, add some wedges.

It's the little things that make you feel unstoppable in an outfit.

Can't seem to put an outfit together from your closet? Check out the photos we've provided for some inspiration...and incentive to buy yourself your next date night win!

Go With The Flow

By Kayla Bustos

When I'm getting ready in the morning, I'm genuinely excited to get dressed. It is my time to play dress-up. One day I may pair some colorful tennis shoes to match some boyfriend jeans and an oversized tee, and the next day -- light, flowy shorts with a cute tank. I am especially giddy if I am trying out a combination of clothes or accessories I’ve just added to my wardrobe.

Some days, I plan outfits in my head -- I store them up, ready for the next special event or occasion. I may not always have the piece that I have in mind, but I'm always on the lookout. Maybe I have too much time on my hands, or maybe I just can't help but love when an outfit comes together. There are times it doesn’t come as naturally as others, and occasionally it feels like there is nothing in my closet at all. When that happens, I know I can always count on some of my favorite flowy clothes to make me feel cute, comfortable and ready to take on the day.

Flowy pants and shorts can always be found in my closet. Sometimes these items are just what you need when it's too hot for jeans. Not to mention, you can find them in any color, style or pattern. Depending on the top and accessories, you can always dress them up or down!

Patterned boho wide leg pants are perfect for a casual day shopping and can easily transition to a night on the town with some wedges and statement jewelry. Some black joggers and a v-neck make for the perfect on-the-go look. When this style is complemented by some delicate jewelry, your outfit has an effortless look and feel.

And of course, summertime calls for shorts! Fun patterns and prints make flowy shorts the perfect addition to your summer wardrobe. Grab a cute hat, a tank top and patterned shorts for the perfect day, in or out. Living in Arizona, I wear shorts all the way through October and I love how well they pair with an oversized sweater and booties.

Sometimes it just takes a little bit of mixing and matching to find out that you can do a lot with a few staple, and stylish, pieces!

Let Lorelei Boutique Help You Find Your Personal Style

By Kayla Bustos

Have you ever wanted a skirt so badly but you thought it didn't look enough like "you?" Have you ever returned something because you got home and didn't have the right thing to put an outfit together? We want to help!

Sometimes it takes a fresh pair of eyes and some creative ideas to make an outfit just right. In my previous blog, I talked about a couple spring/summer staples to get you through the heat. It's important to realize that just because you may not have one of those items in your closet, all hope isn't lost. At the Lorelei Boutique, we strive every day to provide unique clothing and accessories that can fit into any wardrobe -- we want these pieces to be special, and really speak to you and your personal style.

That is why we're developing a special event to help inspire and cultivate great style and a meaningful experience in our store. We will be holding our first Lorelei Boutique Style Workshop! This workshop is meant to guide and encourage women who want a little more from their wardrobe. Julie, the owner, and I will take a little bit of time to speak about our personal styles and then we want to hear from you about what you want from your style.

Please stay tuned for more details to come, and look forward to coming out for a fun event at the Lorelei Boutique!

Staying Stylish No Matter How High Those Temps Get…

By Kayla Bustos

Sometimes when the Arizona heat gets you down, it's hard to avoid throwing on an old pair of shorts and a tank top to run errands, but it doesn't always have to be that way. Most days, I try on at least three outfits because who knows what my day may bring. Luckily, I can stick to a few fun spring items that always keep my outfit light, easy and stylish.

I love to keep a few chambray button-ups in my closet. They pair perfectly with any tank top or summer dress. They are especially great if you don't want your arms exposed to the sun for the entire day. Chambray shirts are a great replacement for denim jackets that are too hot for the Arizona summertime. Conveniently, you can always find different shades and patterns to change up your typical outfit.

Next, I think a little bit of lace or crochet helps to give depth and texture to any outfit. Lace is key for warm days, and I always say less is more. Light lace over the neckline is flattering for everyone and a great complement to the perfect pair of jeans or a chambray button-up. Crochet seems to be back to stay, so try it out with different patterns and colors. It's light and airy, ideal for summer weather.

Now, what would an outfit be without accessories? Sunglasses, a hat and jewelry are key to taking a simple outfit to the next level. It can be fun to keep a couple pairs of your favorite sunnies ready for these never ending sunny days. Why not mix it up with some great colors and different shapes? A comfortable hat is the best kind, and when it's stylish and helps keep you cool, all the better. And, carrying a hat in your car may just save an outfit if your hair has gone by the wayside after a long day!

On to my favorite part of an outfit the jewelry! I always sport a watch, something that I feel ties an outfit together. Staggering simple, elegant gold or silver necklaces over the chest helps to show off a flattering dress or top, and doesn't drag you down when you have a busy day on the go. Never be afraid to mix gold, bronze, silver or rose gold. The best accessories pair well with differing colors and styles. Accessories change an outfit, and the right necklace or bracelet can bring a daytime outfit smoothly into a night on the town.

I love to experiment with color and patterns, and sometimes I fall in love with the most unexpected combinations. Always push your style boundaries!

Here’s to All of You

Since opening Lorelei Boutique two months ago, I’ve been thinking a lot about the amazing and talented people who helped me realize this dream.

I will always be grateful to my family and friends for surrounding me with your love, support and energy as we worked together to open my store on Oct. 1.

To my dear husband, George, for loving me for 20+ years, being the best friend and “co-tenant” a girl could ask for, and being a wonderful father to our lovely girl. And to our spirited redheaded beauty, Lorelei, for inspiring me every day.

To my dad and mom, Bob and Laurie, for always encouraging me and teaching me to pursue what makes me happy.  I know dad is watching…

To my dear sister and fashion merchandiser extraordinaire, Jani, for trekking to Vegas and helping me pick such lovely merchandise to fill the store.

To our lifelong friends, Julie and Matt, for your constant support and counsel, and to Jule, for your retail expertise and being such a perfect addition to the store.

To another lifelong friend, Nicole, for your gift at finding such beautiful furnishings and styling my boutique so that people feel as if they are shopping in their living room.

To Jodi and Krista for my stunning and elegant logo. You got our siren just right!

To Lou for your friendship and advice in getting me “webbed and socialed out.”

To the many vendors who helped us find and secure the right location, build out the space, and put signs on the place.

To all the brands we’ve selected – we are so happy to have your chic and unique creations in our store.

And to our neighbors in Tempe Square – we love this plaza and are grateful for your support and friendship.

Each day, Lorelei Boutique strives to offer a personalized, meaningful experience as you shop our beautiful, unique women’s clothing and accessories.

Thanks to all of you – familiar and new – for helping us achieve that goal.

Why are we the Lorelei Boutique...

The inspiration for the Lorelei Boutique, Tempe, AZ, store name.

The inspiration for the Lorelei Boutique, Tempe, AZ, store name.

Calling my store Lorelei Boutique was easy.

I wanted to reflect the spirit of uniqueness and beauty ... like my mom, my girl, and the many other incredible women I've had the privilege to know.

The legend of the Siren Lorelei on the River Rhine is varied, as fairy tales often are. My German grandfather was enchanted with it and when his first daughter was born, he chose the name for her. And when I had my daughter and saw that she had the "chimple" like me and my mother, it was only fitting that the name carry on in our family.

Come see us in Tempe, AZ, and check out the beautiful clothing, jewelry and handbags we've selected!

We've begun...

Construction has started in Tempe, Arizona on the new Lorelei Boutique store! Can't wait to open my store October 1, 2014.

Construction has started in Tempe, Arizona on the new Lorelei Boutique store! Can't wait to open my store October 1, 2014.

Twenty-two years ago, I took my BA degree in Journalism and packed up my Nissan Sentra and a U-Haul with the help of my dear mama and headed to a world unknown -- Lake Havasu City -- where I gained a job as the police and city beat reporter for the then-biweekly newspaper. Not to use a cliche, but I will, because I like cliches -- I was living on a hope and a prayer.

Little did I know then how much that one big risk would mean for many years to come. At the time it was a job. In a place where I knew no one except the wonderful man who gave me the opportunity. And an important one since it was my first position out of college and in the area I was passionate about. I will always be grateful for that start -- giving me the confidence to be on my own and eventually leading me through a career that would take me various places ... Denver, South Bend, Florham Park. Not to mention, bringing me to the place where I found the love of my life, my dear George.

Flash forward to 2014 and I am so happy to say I'm going for it once again. Another cliche weighs heavy on this heart: Life's too short.

Sometimes, you just have to stop and think about what you really should be doing. For me, it's opening my own business -- not in PR or Communications -- but in something that I've loved as much. Because, if you look good, you feel good. And if you feel good, you can do anything. Yes, I believe that. Getting your style on will give you so much more confidence when you walk into that next big thing, whatever it may be.

So, it is with that in mind, I am so excited to open Lorelei Boutique, right here in what I now I call my hometown of Tempe.

"The most courageous act is still to think for yourself. Aloud." -- Coco Chanel

Yes, those who know me well, know that I think Aloud more often than not.

I hope to see you all very soon at my store. And if you’re not in town, please come by when you ever get to Phoenix, or call me and I'll gladly place an order.

Opening Oct. 1 with a cocktail reception to follow soon thereafter. Details to come!
